WAX sculptor Lungelo Gumede has made a statue in honour of Bonginkosi “Zola 7” Dlamini.
The wax statue is worth half a million rand, but Zola 7 will get it for free.
It is made up of various materials, including paint and clay.
Lungelo said the statue took him seven days to make and is ready to be presented to Zola.
“I’ll present it to him and his family on Tuesday, 5 April. I’ve learnt from past incidents that honouring someone while they are still alive is important instead of waiting for them to die,” said Lungelo.
He said he contacted Zola and his wife before making the statue.
“His family is aware of it and are happy about it. I learnt from Ricky Rick’s incident to always consult the subject of my work or the family before doing the statue.

“I am glad to be part of a movement that honours Zola. This statue will remind the next generation about Zola’s work and will ensure his legacy lives on,” he said.
Zola’s manager Siki Kunene said: “He is aware of the statue. He loves it and feels humbled by this gesture.”
Lungelo also posted the finished statue on his Facebook page and captioned it: “The making of kwaito legend Zola 7 wax statue from start to finish #Zola7.”
