MZANSI'S top jazz musician and songwriter Thapelo Joseph Mofokeng has died.

The musician died on Sunday, 21 January at the age of 74.

Thapelo from Orlando East, Soweto was known for his excellent work as a musician in the 80s. His family released a statement confirming his death.

"On behalf of the Mofokeng family, we would like to sadly announce the passing of the legendary artist Mr Thapelo Joseph Mofokeng on 21st January 2023. This is a difficult moment for the family, and we are still processing everything," read the statement.

However, the family did not reveal the cause of death.

They further said they will communicate all funeral arrangements in due time.

In 2013, the musician was featured in a film called Felix as Bro Joe where he taught kids how to play the saxophone.
