IT has been a year since the tragic death of top rapper Costa Tsobanoglou, who was popularly known as Costa Titch.

The 28-year-old died while performing at the Ultra Music Festival at the Ezpo Centre in Joburg in March 2023.

Commemorating the one-year anniversary since he died, his family launched the Painting the Town Green campaign, which aims to celebrate the vibrant spirit that Costa brought to the music world.

In a statement, the family said Costa, who was known for his love of the colour green, will be remembered throughout the campaign, which will feature special days such as Green Fridays.

Fans are encouraged to wear green and share their tributes using the hashtags #PaintingTheTownGreen and #RIPCostaTitch on social media.

“The campaign also aims to achieve a significant milestone with Costa’s iconic Big Flexa music video, which is on the brink of reaching 100 million views. Fans worldwide are urged to join in and celebrate by streaming the video, making it the most viewed amapiano music video in history and possibly the most viewed South African music video of all time,” read the statement.

Costa’s global impact is evident through his collaborations with international stars including Akon, Diamond Platinumz and Pheelz, among others. His extensive reach led him to perform in over 25 countries in two years, solidifying his status as a beloved international act.

Costa began his journey in the entertainment industry as a dancer.

“With a heart full of generosity, he shared his passion by teaching dance to kids in his hometown of Mbombela. To honour his legacy and give back to the community, there are plans to establish the Costa Titch Dance Academy in the near future,” further read the statement.

As part of the campaign, a special playlist featuring Costa’s top tracks has been curated for fans to enjoy and reminisce about his extraordinary contributions to the music scene.

“Join us as we celebrate the life and legacy of Costa Titch by participating in the Painting the Town Green campaign, sharing memories, streaming his music and helping us reach the 100 million milestone for the Big Flexa music video.”
