KWAITO artist Mthokozisi "K-yos" Sibisi has opened up about his battle with depression.
K-yos from Mandeni, northern KZN, said he nearly gave up on life, his business, and music, but he decided to make music in studio to heal.
He said his depression started in 2022 when he broke up with his long-time lover, whom he was hoping to get married to.
He said he has used his music to heal and released his single song title Ufunani (What do you want).
K-yos told Daily Sun he was not attacking his ex-lover in the song, but he wanted to encourage people to always know what they want in life.
“The song is not personal, but I want people to be clear about what they want in their lives. Yes, I have survived depression.
“Last year I released my single titled Ngiyabonga featuring Thinah Zungu when everything was going well but suddenly things went bad. My girlfriend and I broke up and suffered depression,” he said.

He said when he was still dealing with depression, he was forced to stay behind closed doors to heal but spending time in the studio healed him.
“Last year I also planned to release my debut album, but depression stopped me. Since I started my music career in 2012 I have been releasing singles
“I’m a witness that music heals broken hearts. The more time I spent in the studio, the more music revived my soul,” he said.
K-yos said now that he has healed, he is ready to move on with his life and hopes his life will go well.
“I’m preparing to release my debut album at the end of 2023. My album will be a mixture of kwaito and amapiano since I’m a kwaito artist,” he said.
