FORMER radio and TV host Kini Shandu has started his Podcast with Kini Shandu on YouTube.

Kini said his love for TV and radio drove him to start his own thing.

He said it would give celebrities a platform to tell their stories.

“This also gives me freedom of speech. I’m doing my own thing. You know sometimes one can’t voice their opinion when they are working at a certain radio or TV company because every company has their own policies and rules. But I can talk about anything, anyhow on my podcast.”

Kini gained fame when he was hosting the Gagasi FM breakfast show. He then left the station and joined SABC1 talk show Daily Thetha.

Shandu, who also appeared on Uzalo as a lawyer, said his experience on radio and TV made things easy for him.

“The experience helps me a lot because my podcast is the combination of radio and TV. I have skills of interviewing my guests. I’ve always loved radio and TV and I’m glad now I’m doing this. It makes me happy,” said Kini, who also is the founder of Sebenza Women Awards.

When he’s not busy with his media work, he promotes his alcohol business and has created his own gin, KwaZulu Dry Gin.

He said his podcast not only gave a platform to celebrities, but to all influential people, including politicians and pastors.

So far, he’s had DJ Happygal and former head of eThekwini Parks and Recreation Thembinkosi Ngcobo as his guests.
