KAYA 959 has announced that it has parted ways with radio presenter Unathi Nkayi.

The station released a statement on Wednesday, 17 November and said her contract has been terminated effective immediately.

Unathi hosted the Midday Joy show from midday to 3pm on weekdays.

“Kaya 959 can confirm the contract of presenter Ms. Unathi Nkayi has been terminated, effective immediately,” they wrote.

It said certain incidents happened, which led to the station’s decision and that due process was followed prior to letting her go.

“Ms Nkayi’s contract has ended prematurely due to certain conduct that rendered the relationship intolerable going forward. Kaya 959 can confirm that certain incidents had occurred, which resulted in the breakdown of the trust relationship between the two parties. The business can further confirm that due process was followed,” the statement read.

The station also asked not to be asked about the details of what happened and that a new presenter will be announced.

“The station would prefer not to be drawn into a debate around the details of what transpired in the interest of both parties. Safe to state that Ms Nkayi’s version of events have been carefully considered and unfortunately found wanting. A replacement presenter is to be announced in due course,” it continued.

Unathi has been off-air from last month and Andy Maqondwana has been standing in for her.
