THE six suspects arrested in connection with Kaizer Chiefs defender, Luke Fleurs' murder remain in custody.

This after they appeared briefly in the Roodepoort Magistrates Court on Friday, 12 April.

The six accused, Ndumiso Ndura Moswane (26), Fernando Nando Sive (25), Nhlakanipho Dlamini (21), Franky Xaba (25), Maredi Mphahlele (36) and Thembinkosi Hlanikhawu (31) wore masks and hid their faces when they came to court.

They're charged with murder with common purpose, robbery with aggravating circumstances, possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition and defeating the ends of justice.

The matter was postponed to Friday, 19 April, to allow the bail application process by Legal Aid and further investigations.

Magistrate Anneline Africa asked the accused if they would like to apply for legal representation from Legal Aid or have their own lawyers. They all requested Legal Aid's services.

They were told they could only apply for bail after seven days.

This after state prosecutor, Arnold Limekhaya opposed their bail application.

Outside court, Luke's dad, Theo told the media he's deeply hurt by what the suspects did to his son.

"Parents need to teach their kids how to be good people. We now have this situation where we lose innocent lives over nothing.

"What they did to my son is sad. It's us parents who fail our kids. We need to ask them how they're feeling and how they're doing at school," Theo said.

Regional National Prosecuting Authority spokeswoman, Phindi Mjonodwane said they have a strong case. She said they are still to find out if the suspects were involved in other crimes.

"We have a strong case here, looking at what we have as the state. The police would have an idea if they were involved in other crimes," said Mjonodwane.

Luke (24) was killed during an alleged botched hijacking at a petrol station in Florida, Joburg, on Wednesday, 3 April. Gauteng police arrested the six suspects on Wednesday, 10 April.
