"I LEFT my job to pursue acting."

These are the words of actress, Palesa Mosiela.

Many people are afraid to quit their 9-5 jobs and follow their dreams, but that wasn't the case for Gauteng-born motivational speaker and wellness coach.

She gave up her job to pursue acting.

The 39-year-old actress said after a while, when she had achieved financial stability, she decided it was time to do what she loves, so she moved on.

"I've been in the corporate world since I was 22. For a while, I was a general manager for an international boxing promotion company. My passion has always been the stage, but due to the financial situation at home, it was impossible for me to realise my dreams, so I put my communications degree into good use," said Palesa.

She added that she knew it wasn't going to be easy.

"I knew it'd be a challenge, but nothing could have prepared me for the difficult road ahead. It took me three years to get my first role and five years to get my first movie role."

Palesa's breakthrough came when she landed a role in the film Soweto Blaze, which is about a marijuana dealer who's down on his luck.

The actress said when she got the script, she knew it'd be a good opportunity for her.

"I read the script and really wanted to be part of the project. It's an authentic South African story, it’s relatable and captures so much of what we represent as a country," she said.

Palesa also mentioned that she put herself to the test during filming as she had never acted in an action movie before and pulled a hamstring in the process.
