IT’S all systems go for the 10th Indoni Mr and Miss Cultural South Africa event this coming weekend.
After a two-year break caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, Indoni South Africa, the hub of African intellectual and indigenous knowledge systems, will be welcoming back its colourful spectators in KZN from 16 to 17 December.
Marketing and PR officer Themba Mthembu said Indoni SA is a flagship programme of the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture (DSAC), which organises heritage celebrations annually.
He said this year’s event will be Indoni SA’s 10th anniversary celebration hosted at the Durban International Convention Centre.

A cultural parade will be held from Smith to Richmond street in Durban, where Indoni SA has built its own culture school called Indoni Village.
The school hosts young people during holidays.
“Through Indoni My Heritage, My Pride, the department addresses social ills and facilitates behavioural change among the youth using identity-based programme,” said Mthembu.
“All past participants who have graduated from the culture school and achieved academic excellence will also be honoured this time around with the Indoni Academic Awards,” he said.
Mthembu said on the night of 16 December just before the finale, the awards ceremony will be held at the Durban International Convention Centre.
Deputy director-general at DSAC, Dr Stella Khumalo, said their support for this programme is vital as it has ultimately led to the building of a school that focuses on cultural and moral sustainability.

“It is evident that moral regeneration is necessary because this programme has been running for 10 years. This also proves how relevant such interventions are at this point in time,” she said.
“Nowadays, young people are easily led astray. They use drugs and abuse alcohol, resulting in high rates of sexual abuse, teenage pregnancy and HIV infection,” she said.
