DJ and producer Mr Thela will be releasing a new album.

MZANSI DJ and producer Mr Thela is set to drop his latest album titled Tronic Land Series 2.

The DJ, whose real name is Simphiwe Sihawu, recently announced this during his closing performance for Zakes Bantwini’s game-changer concert, Abantu.

The 24-year-old musician from Samora Machel in Phillippi, Cape Town has worked with big names like Babes Wodumo, Tira, Big Nuz, Nobantu Vilakazi and Tukzin and is popularly known for his song Iparty.

He said his new album is a unique blend of gqom and soulful melodies.

"It is music that touches the soul and is influenced by some church melodies and some emotions. Everything that has been happening in my life this year, the good and bad, has really inspired me to put this solid project together and give it to people,” he said.

The producer also announced that he will be embarking on a local tour.

“My fans and those who support me can expect nothing but great entertainment, good music as there’s something for everyone in this new album,” he said.

Mr Thela said he has launched his own record label, Tronics Land, to build a legacy for himself and his family.

“I recently returned from a two-week tour in the United Kingdom. The UK was a lot of fun. I learnt a lot and it introduced me to a whole new level of understanding my artistry, music and reach,” he said.

He said he learnt that Mzansi artists focus on South African plans.

“The internet and access to social media forces us to plan globally and my trip to Sony Music UK made me realise this. We never know who is watching or listening,” he said.

Mr Thela said music is like a calling.

"I grew up in church as a pastor's kid. I played the keyboard for the congregation and out of curiosity, I decided to infuse a popular sound that is called gqom with my church melodies. Little did I know that I was pioneering what is now called Cape Town gqom," he said.

While he aspires to take his music internationally, Mr Thela also wants to give back to the community.

"My wish is to give back to the community by mentoring young boys and girls who come from poor backgrounds," he said.
