PRUDENCE Mandyu (46) believes her inspiration to be a musician is driven by her calling to write, arrange songs and minister with her voice.

The 46-year-old gospel singer who was born in Rustenburg, North West, classified her sound as a fusion of Afro and jazz gospel, which is praise and worship.

She began recording professionally as an artist in 2017 when she recorded her live album Ingakho Ngimdumisa at the Yamaha Theatre in Sandton, north of Joburg in 2022.

She said her parents, who are Christians, inspired her to become a gospel singer.

"I'm a compassionate, selfless, loving and kind, supportive, highly creative, and a hardworking individual," she said.

Prudence said navigating the industry is never a walk in the park, but patience remains critical in a person's growth.

"There's all sorts of challenges from finding your sound and building towards maintaining and growing it," she said.

She said starting music professionally was a huge challenge because of money and proper planning.

"Being welcomed by other gospel artists in the music industry was a struggle, and also sharing stages with them," the singer said.

She said she was clueless when starting the journey of music but always had hope through praying and fasting.

"I started my singing journey at church. But getting support from churches, if you're not popular, is challenging," she said.

In 2023, she released her single, O makgona tsothle.

She also did an intimate worship session of three songs Oke Miri, O makgona tsothle and Take all the glory.
