LAST week, MultiChoice announced that the telenovela DiepCity is coming to an end and a new one will replace it.
The news caught the actors off guard as this means they will lose their jobs. But the show’s writer and producer, Mandla N, has revealed the DiepCity actors will not lose their jobs.
Veteran actor Obed Baloyi said he’s been in the acting industry for more than 20 years but had never been in a production this long.
“I have been on DiepCity since season one.
“For the first time I felt special because I built the Ringo character from scratch and brought him to life.
“Personally I was shocked and saddened because it simply means I will have no job in the next few months. I know it’s a done deal but I pray that they change this decision,” he said.
Another actor, Moshine Mametja, who plays Mary, has also been on DiepCity since season one. She said she didn’t want to stress about the news.

“I just want to remember DiepCity as a production that gave me a big break on TV.
“I also take comfort in knowing that my name will go down in history as one of DiepCity’s actors. I hope that another opportunity will present itself to me,” she said.
However, Mandla N put the actors at ease.
He told Daily Sun he will fight tooth and nail to ensure DiepCity actors do not disappear from TV.
“DiepCity has run its course and it’s time to let go and focus on other productions.
“I am proud of DiepCity. It was a successful production.
“DiepCity introduced new faces in the acting space. We uncovered new talent but most importantly, we created jobs for the youth.
“I will not allow them to be jobless. I will make sure they are accommodated on other productions,” he said.
