BLACK Brain Pictures has announced that their award-winning telenovela, DiepCity is ending.
The Mzansi Magic show is ending after a successful two-year run.
The production company said the show was envisioned for two years, and the contract has ended.
“DiepCity has always been envisaged to be a two-year production in partnership with Mzansi Magic and now the contract is nearing its end. A deliberate and strategic move by Mzansi Magic, to offer viewers a dynamic show that would keep them glued to their screens and secure that slot,” read their statement.
Speaking about the ending of the show, the Creative Director of Black Brain Pictures, Mandla N said: “DiepCity has been a hit on South African television and has introduced audiences to unique characters who have resonated strongly with fans. DiepCity fans have played a big role in the success of the show over the past two years, and we are thankful for their support.”

The executive producer, Mpumelelo Nhlapo, said they have more exciting shows coming.
“We have a slew of new, exciting shows in the pipeline that we are developing with our broadcast partners, and we can’t wait to share them with our viewers,” he said.
The show also received nine nominations from the South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTAs). They are up for Most Popular TV Soap Or Telenovela (Public Vote), Best Telenovela, Best Supporting Actor In A Telenovela, Best Achievement In Directing – Telenovela, Best Achievement In Scriptwriting – Telenovela, Best Achievement In Art Direction - TV Soap/Telenovela, Best Achievement In Cinematography – Telenovela, Best Achievement In Editing –TV Soap/Telenovela and Best Achievement In Make-Up And Hairstyling - TV Soap/Telenovela
