FREE State residents will finally get recognition after this year’s Sunset Groove Lifestyle Event.
The event will take place on 30 September, and Trace TV will broadcast it.
The founder of the event, Nkokheli Lindazwe, said that it would be a first for a Free State-based event.
“I reached out to Trace because I wanted to expose people in the Free State to new things. I noticed that events there aren’t broadcast, and I know the people are avid TV watchers. I looked at which channels worked with events and decided to approach Trace," he said.
Nkokheli said people from the province lacked opportunities to appear on national TV.
“The channel was also happy to be part of this because they hadn’t covered any event since Covid hit. So, a seamless marriage was formed. The partnership is simple. They sponsor us with airtime to advertise the event and broadcast the event,” he said.

Nkokheli said he started the concert because he wanted to cater for youngsters.
“I moved to Joburg about six years ago, and through my other businesses, I started having relationships with the media and in the music industry. Plus, I’m an avid music lover. I’ve always followed Macufe, the largest festival in the province, but I felt like sometimes they wouldn’t cater to young people like me.
“I couldn’t attend because sometimes tickets would be expensive. I decided I would create something different. And early last year, I decided to finally do it. I started Sunset Groove,” he said.
They kicked off the event with a bang in 2022 and are promising an even bigger one this year.
“Last year, we took a risk and decided to shake things up to set tongues wagging. I brought Podcast & Chill with MacG because I realised he hadn’t done his brunches in the Free State. We had quite a successful event.
“This year, we are under pressure because we kicked it off very well last year. We are trying to surprise people with something interesting. We will announce the line-up soon. But expect a lot of surprises in terms of the line-up,” Nkokheli said.
