THE GCWALISA Spring Picnic All White is changing its procedure for booking artists.

This is meant to avoid booking the same artists and leaving some in the cold.

The first annual maskandi picnic began in 2023, where maskandi artists were booked according to their following on social media.

This year, the picnic organisers have announced that 10 artists will be booked according to their recent songs with more than one million views on YouTube.

The line-up will be announced on Tuesday, 29 August, and the picnic will be held at Hollywood Bets King's Park in Durban, KZN on Saturday, 4 November.

Event organiser and maskandi star Khuzani Mpungose said the main reason is to accommodate everyone.

"This year, we want to introduce a new way to book 10 artists to perform at the Gcwalisa Spring Picnic All White.

"The main reason is that our previous Facebook procedure will give us the same artists every year, and it was only good for last year," he said.

The Ijele hitmaker said the newly introduced procedure is the best one for the upcoming picnics.

"We will book all artists with songs with more than one million views on YouTube from their recent albums.

"The main purpose is not to leave out those artists who have hit songs that are loved by many people, but they have little following on Facebook," he said.

Khuzani said from now on, those artists who have not reached more than one million views on YouTube can work hard to persuade people to give them views before 29 August.

"If many artists are getting one million views or more than a million, then we will take those who have higher numbers.

"On Tuesday, 29 August, we will announce all those who have been booked," he said.

In 2019, Khuzani was the first maskandi musician to fill up Durban's Moses Mabhida Stadium with his festival called the Gcwalisa Mabhida Maskandi Festival, which President Cyril Ramaphosa also attended.
