GOSPEL singer Ayanda Shange has ventured into politics.

The former Joyous Celebration singer has joined the African Transformation Movement (ATM).

The singer said they plan on doing great things and spreading the word of God.

Speaking to Daily Sun, he said one of the reasons he joined ATM is because he personally knows the leaders and can hold them accountable.

"The chief apostle of my church, the Twelve Apostolic Church of Christ, started this party. What I like about it is that it goes along with God's word. Just like when God brought the Israelites out of Egypt.

"He heard the cries of the people in Mzansi, the high crime rate, the unemployment and the criminality in our government. That's why this party was formed.

"I felt that I should join it because it comes from my church and I know them. If they aren't doing well, I can always talk to them and hold them accountable," he said.

Ayanda said the party was chosen by God and that's why he joined it.

"The party is only five years old and has seats in parliament, which shows that it is chosen by God. This party reminds me of the prayer that says, 'Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven,' so if we are poor here, it means that heaven is poor. And that is not the truth.

"We are not fighting with anybody. We are just here to help, and we are a praying political party. We are all about God's word and spreading ubuntu," he said.

The singer said they will launch a new branch in Lawley, south of Joburg on Friday, 7 July.

"We hope to create jobs, and as someone who used to take drugs, I think my dream is to inspire the youth.

"We want people to know that we have heard their cry and that God has heard them" said Ayanda.
