COMEDIAN and former reality TV star Mongezi "Tol A$$ Mo" Mahlangu talks about mental health.
The 37-year-old said he has experienced a journey of intense personal turbulence over the past months.
"I started at a point where my life was at its peak, only to be abruptly interrupted by a false rape allegation in May 2020. In my opinion, this allegation, of which I was ultimately cleared, marks the beginning of my trauma and mental wellbeing challenges. It also explains the origin of my unfortunate belittling comment about black women," he said.
He said the impact of that time was devastating.
"I lost many things that were dear to me, not least my sense of self, numerous lucrative contracts and the trust of many people around me. My ordeal escalated into a mental health crisis in which I struggled with severe depression and a breakdown that I could hardly have foreseen," he said.
He said this period was characterised by a deep sense of disconnection from "my surroundings and a loss of control over my actions and words".
"During this time of vulnerability, I found myself in the care of a family member with whom I had a strained relationship. I felt powerless and even further away from my true self," he said.

Tol A$$ Mo said he regrets the hurtful and confusing statements made during the time he was in.
He said the road to recovering his wellbeing has been full of challenges, including coping with the effects of his actions.
"My return to the fold, with the unwavering support of my wife, is a major milestone in my recovery. She has shown nothing but grace and understanding, even when my behaviour was inexplicable and damaging," he said.
Tol A$$ Mo said the statement was an appeal for understanding and forgiveness.
"I recognise that my behaviour, influenced by my mental struggles and trauma, has caused great distress and disappointment. For this I am truly sorry.
"I'm now committed to healing and making amends to those I've wronged. I'm dedicated to regaining the trust and respect of my community, acknowledging that this will require time and that I must make demonstrable changes," he said.
Tol A$$ Mo said he urges people to be self-aware, deal with mental health issues and never give up.
"Therapy, prayer and the support of my immediate family have led me out of my loss of self. I will be forever grateful for the gift of life I have been given," Tol A$$ Mo said.
