PRESENTER and ex-offender Themba Lukhele, who is better known as Skeem GP, is giving back to the community.

The founder of Skeem Foundation said he'll be hosting young people during his Youth Sports Tournament charity drive in Ekurhuleni where they will have different sporting activities such as soccer, football, netball, and basketball.

He told Daily Sun that this is one of the goals he always wanted to accomplish after being released from jail.

He said the event will take place at the Spruitview Multipurpose Regional Park on Saturday, 17 June and Sunday, 18 June.

Skeem GP said he plans to help the youth see the value of education and stay away from crime and drugs.

The podcaster also said his podcast deals with ex-offenders who unpack their lived experiences in the environment they grew up in, what influenced them to do the crime, their arrest, and life behind bars.

"This is done so as to teach people the dangers associated with crime and despite the often-sensationalised lie about correctional centres being five-star hotels, we paint the real picture of what lies beyond the steel gates," he said.

Skeem GP said they plan to empower and free the youth through career guidance seminars and how they can make a decent living through entrepreneurship.

"We also want to see inmates changing their ways and boosting their libraries to encourage wide readership. And a crime-free South Africa is imminent after all which is our main agenda at Skeem GP Foundation," he said.

The event organiser, Zanele Mthembu, told Daily Sun that they want to bring change with this project.

She said they even have the Skeem GP Foundation magazine where they specialise in content that talks about the dangers of crime.

"We strive for change in all areas. We want people to learn to play far from crime," she said.
