GOSPEL singer SbuNoah is still finding his way back after losing his mum.
Even though she died three years ago, he said it's been tough. He said the wound still feels fresh, and he's been using music to try and heal.
The Ewe Getsemane hitmaker, whose real name is Sbusiso Mthembu (37) from Inanda in KZN, opened up to Daily Sun about his mum, Thembi Mthembu.
“My mum raised me by herself, so her passing affected me a lot. And people think because we are gospel artists, we don’t go through stuff. I’m also a human being. I have feelings like other people.
“Losing a parent is not just something you can get over. But knowing God helps. Music for me has always been one of my go-to things, especially during this time. Writing a lot of songs is helping me to heal,” he said.
He said staying in God helped him through the process of healing.

“My mum passed away three years ago, but it feels like it was last year. The wound is still fresh. It’s been a process and I’ve been using music as a tool to get back to myself. The one thing that has stood the test of time for me is staying in God. Even in my writing, that’s consistent,” the singer said.
Sbu’s new single, titled Malifezeke which will be released on Friday, 7 July, talks about his journey of healing.
“I felt it was time to write a song that declares and confirms who God is. It is based on Jeremiah 29:11 and Philippians 4:6. They are a declaration and also some of the tools I’ve used to get back to myself. It was beautiful when I sat down and wrote this song. In a way, it continues from where I left off on my first album, A David Kind of Psalm. I wanted to release music people can listen to in the morning and speak the word of God in your life,” the singer said.
The single is a build-up to his second live DVD recording.
“We’ll be recording on 9 September, here in Joburg. Hopefully, we’ll released it in November,” Sbu said.
