THABILE Malatjie (23) appeared in the Hatfield Magistrates Court in Tshwane on Thursday, 15 June.

The 23-year-old ex-employee of Mzansi artist and businesswoman, DJ Zinhle, was arrested on 12 January for allegedly stealing stock at Zinhle's shop, Era by DJ Zinhle, where she used to work.

According to NPA regional spokeswoman Lumka Mahanjana, Malatjie applied for mediation to resolve the matter without proceeding with the prosecution.

“The mediation was refused by the senior public prosecutor. She is facing a charge of theft and it's alleged that the accused was employed at Era by DJ Zinhle and stole stock worth an unverified amount of money,” she said.

She said Malatjie was subsequently released on R5 000 bail, and the matter was postponed to 24 July 2023 for trial.

According to a police report seen by Daily Sun, the Umlilo hitmaker caught Malatjie from her store in Menlyn, Tshwane stealing.

The report also reveals that Zinhle suspected that Malatjie had been stealing from her.

"The complainant alleged that she employed (the suspect) at her store, then she started to become suspicious that the business wasn't running well in terms of profit," the report read.

The report further reveals that DJ Zinhle tried to catch the employee by setting a trap for her.

"She then went with her friends to the store, and they bought some items.

"Later, she went back to the store and asked to see the money for the day, and Malatjie failed to produce.

She gave her R200, confessed she took the rest of the money," the report read.

The DJ also found some stolen items at the employee's house.

The store was opened in October 2022 and it was set to be DJ Zinhle's sixth shop.

The Era by DJ Zinhle brand also celebrated 10 years in 2022, just before the opening of the Menyln store.

This is the second incident involving DJ Zinhle and an employee allegedly stealing from her.
