THE past two years have been nothing but bliss for DJ and radio presenter, DJ Sabby.

He left youth radio station Y in 2021, joined Metro FM that same year, got married and has worked his way up to the biggest show of the station – the breakfast show.

It’s been two weeks since he’s taken over the show called Best Mornings from Mo Flava and is having the time of his life.

The media personality, whose real name is Sabelo Mtshali (32), told SunBuzz that the past few years have been a rollercoaster ride.

"I feel like now I’m climbing the perfect mountain. When I left Y, I had no job offer. Metro FM came and they offered me the Top 40 slot.

"It was a new challenge getting into the national space. That was an iconic show, so I had to prove myself. There was so much I had to offer, but there was a lot to learn and unlearn. It was a cool opportunity, but I had to prove myself," he said.

He then moved from hosting the Top 40 once a week to hosting a weekday show.

"After a year, I remember when I was told that I’d still be hosting the Top 40, I was happy. But I was also told to hold on because something was going to come up. Dineo Ranaka left and that’s when I took over The Bridge from 9am to noon. That’s when everything started for me," he said.

Now he’s hosting Best Mornings alongside former Y presenter, Kandas (real name Candice Coulsen).

"I knew this was going to happen, it was just a matter of when. However, when it happened this year it was a reminder that God has His ways. When they told me, I couldn’t even get my English straight. I didn’t even know which Metro FM they were talking about."

Sabby said he has been enjoying hosting the breakfast show and working with his team.

"I’ve known Kandas from Y. There’s a synergy and a relationship that’s already there. I’ve also worked with Zandile, the newsreader. So, it was cool for me to work with these people. We all knew each other one way or the other. It’s been quite cool, with everyone’s playing their part. I think that’s the most exciting part, working with people who want to work.

"Right now, I’m working on making Best Mornings the number one breakfast show in Mzansi. I’ll make sure that it becomes the first option for listeners all over the country," Sabby said.
