Eugen Khoza was nominated to represent Podcast and Chill in Parliament

POPULAR YouTube podcaster and businessman Macgyver Mukwevho, popularly known as Mac G, has launched a last-minute campaign for a seat in Parliament before the 2024 general and provincial elections, which will take place on Wednesday, May 29.

Joined by his co-host and radio presenter Sol Phendula and comedian Eugene Khoza, and the GenZ’s will have someone representing them in Parliament.

Eugen Khoza was nominated to represent Podcast and Chill in Parliament after collecting more than 1 000 signatures in Braamfontein and Tuks recently.

Speaking to Daily Sun, the comedian said they got more signatures than they expected.

“We got almost 2 000 signatures; a thousand is what is wanted, but we got over that number,” he said.

He said as much as he is expected to be nervous, he isn’t.

“There is nothing to be nervous about but also a lot to be nervous about before. It’s never been done before, and that’s what makes it exciting,” he said.

He said young citizens don’t really know what democracy is and that’s why they don’t want to vote.

“Problems of the youth affect their parents more than them. If the political parties want to entice old people to vote, they will tell them about Nsfas and getting their kids jobs after university; the mother will go and vote,” he said.

He said the younger generation will always want to hold the parties accountable.

“They have too much time on their hands. They're fighting for jobs, disgruntled at home with no data, and they have voted,” he said.

He said they're helping the parties now because the youth don’t vote.

“When you complain, you complain, so that's what should happen. That's why even if you look at the service delivery marches, you find older people because they're the ones who voted,” he said.

He said their decision to start the campaign was just a spontaneous decision. adding that MacG nominated him to go for it.

“Mac G is my friend, and I know he won’t put me in a trap. When I was on the podcast with Sol, there were plenty of conversations, and the one thing I'd say is why we always complain and do not want to be the change,” he said.

When Daily Sun asked Eugene what his plans were for navigating comedy with politics, he said: “I haven’t thought far, and I'm taking one step at a time. I just want the youth experience and want to take their destiny in their own hands,” he said.
