WELCOME “Bhodloza” Nzimande’s family members are at loggerheads with Ukhozi FM.
At the centre of their fight is the song Hamba Kahle Baba, that was submitted but never played.
Bhodloza’s son, Thelumusa, told Daily Sun the purpose of the song was to honour their father.
“The song met all requirements. We know this because we’ve been communicating with them. We also met with Ukhozi FM management and discussed the song. We wrote emails and asked if it was up to standard and they assured us that it was,” he said.
Daily Sun has seen the messages from Ukhozi FM, assuring Bhodloza’s family that the song was scheduled.
“But, business manager Sbongi Ngcobo publicly announced that they want the song. She told us it was crucial for Ukhozi because my father was the station manager, so it would play a huge role in honouring him. Today we are saddened that the song was never played. We have enquired but never received a proper answer,” said Thelumusa.

The People’s Paper has seen the video clip where Sbongi spoke fondly about Bhodloza.
“As Ukhozi FM, we took a decision that October will be dedicated to South African music. This is the month where we play only local music because we want to appreciate people such as Bhodloza. He played a huge role in the music industry. He dedicated his time, effort and attention to SA music. He also helped a lot of artists. We are now complaining because management is not giving my father the honour he deserves,” said Sbongi.
Ukhozi’s Ndileka Cola said the family was free to contact the station.
“Ukhozi FM, like all SABC radio stations, has a music committee responsible for the playlist. It is guided by the music policy and process of submitting music, including correspondence between the station and person or institution that made a submission. In a case where the person or institution is not satisfied with the feedback or outcome provided, they are at liberty to engage.”
