AMAPIANO singer and songwriter Sabelo Zuma, known for his work with Amaroto, is in hot water.

The 24-year-old musician from Joburg is accused of assaulting his girlfriend.

A case has been filed at the Midrand Police Station last month.

Police spokeswoman Colonel Noxolo Kweza said Sabelo appeared in the Midrand Magistrates Court on Friday, 19 April, facing charges related to an assault (GBV) case.

Kweza stated: "I can confirm that we've opened an assault case. The musician has been arrested and appeared in court already."

When approached by the SunTeam, Sabelo denied any knowledge of the matter. He claimed he's innocent and accused others of lying about him.

"I know nothing about this, and they are just lying about me. This is news to me. Who is telling you these things. They must stop spreading lies about me," Zuma said.

Despite the SunTeam's attempts to reach the victim to give her side of the story, her phone rang unanswered.

Sabelo is a member of the renowned amapiano duo Amaroto, alongside Reece Madlisa, whose real name is Clive Tshikosi.

Their label, Amaroto Entertainment, has collaborated with artists like Pabi Cooper.

Despite their success, the duo recently went separate ways to pursue solo careers, leaving fans with hits like Chomi, Phendula, and Taxify.
