THEY say bottling up your emotions is never good for the mind and body.
That’s the same message amapiano star Aymos is preaching through his new single, Amandla.
The song featuring Jessica LM was released two weeks ago, and it’s about the importance of grieving.
The Sengizwile hitmaker, whose real name is Babili Amos Shili (28) from Tembisa in Ekurhuleni, spoke to Daily Sun about their song.
“Amandla is about remembering the people we’ve lost. It’s a song about grieving, finding closure, strength to heal, and being able to move on.
“I feel this song will speak to people’s hearts and let them know that it’s okay to cry, to mourn their loved ones and not find themselves trying to get over pain using alcohol or substance abuse because they didn’t get to cry,” he said.

Aymos said he’s glad he finally got into studio with Jessica LM.
“I remember Jessica from her song titled Juba Lam, which is one of my favourite songs and I felt like she was perfect for this song. I approached her and she was happy to work with me. She did an amazing job and I’m really happy about it,” he said.
Aymos has also recently collaborated with other big names such as Ami Faku and Afrotraction. He also has songs with Kabza De Small.
“I didn’t expect Fatela with Ami Faku to be this big. I knew it had an impactful message, but I wasn’t sure about a lot. Ami is a professional and superstar. How she does a recording is different from other people. She does things in a strict and straight way, unlike most creatives. The song is now on 12 million views on YouTube.
“And working with Afrotraction, the single we did was recorded a long time ago. I had even forgotten about it. And I didn’t think it would even make it to his album because we just recorded that song in 15 minutes, just in passing. It’s an amazing song and the production is out of this world,” he said.
Aymos said he’s working on something big.
“Towards the end of the year, something really big is coming. It will be a collaboration with one of the greatest and biggest artists in South Africa,” he said.
