FORMER Generations actress Sonia Mbele has denied the charges of tax evasion that she’s facing.

This after the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) revealed on Wednesday, 27 September, that there are 42 counts of various charges that Sonia, Real Housewives of South Africa (Pty) Ltd (Rhosa) directors, Yolisa Gqunta and Rebone Sesing are facing.

A warrant of arrest for her had been applied for, but they are holding it until 5 October.

They are facing 42 counts of not filing company income tax from 2019 to 2022, not filing their Value Added Tax (VAT) returns from 2020 to 2022, and not filing their Pay As You Earn (PAYE) from 2020 until 2022.

Sonia’s spokeswoman, Thato Malindi, said they haven’t received any news about a warrant of arrest.

She said Sonia was dragged for something she didn't know and didn't do.

“We have seen a viral report from the media that there is a warrant of arrest for Sonia Mbele. We urge these reports to come forth with that documentation as we haven’t received it yet from her camp,” she said.

She also claims that Sonia closed the company in 2019.

“Sonia has been once again a victim of misconduct by her past peers and the media. Rhosa is the company in question this time around Sars probing a failure of tax return submission pertaining to Rhosa, which from Sonia’s knowledge was closed down in 2019.

“In 2019, Sonia Mbele left Rhosa and concluded with her peers to close the company, however, the public officer and accountant didn’t do so. Now she is forced to attend these proceedings without any knowledge of the company still being operational when she left and decided to close down the company,” Thato said.

She also shared that Sonia isn't feeling well.

“Sonia further made her own arrangements to settle her portion of the amount, which means she wasn’t in contempt of court due to the assessment made. Sonia also submitted a doctor’s note to the NPA, and it was taken into record.

“So, it confuses and derails us on why these allegations haven't been highlighted to make it seem like she has been ducking and dodging these allegations," Thato said.

She said Sonia was still not well and had gone to the doctor again for a check-up on Thursday, 28 September.

"She is still working to settle her name which has been dented by her previous peers and the media,” Thato added.
