MZANSI celebs have shown that they will take a stand and help when things go bad.

And one such celeb is actress Sonia Mbele, who will donate 5 000 litres of water from her company, Alkamax, to KZN flood victims.

The water is valued at R80 000.

Sonia said she’ll donate the water to rescue sites, community halls, homes and schools.

She told Daily Sun: “It doesn’t need to take a national disaster for people to stand up.

“This was a matter of seeing what was happening. There’s a need, there’s a shortage, there isn’t enough water in and around KZN.”

She landed in KZN on Wednesday, 20 April and will start making the deliveries on Thursday, 21 April.

“We will go to different areas and we have people that will help us identify the places that need assistance,” she said.

Sonia said she always gives whenever she goes to various places because giving is in her blood. “I’ve been through it all. Giving is in my nature. I’ve been giving in silence.

“When I get a gig, I award the underprivileged when I get paid. I take a percentage and help people in that community. Not because I’m rich, but because I know and understand poverty.”

The actress said she understood what the people were going through as she was in a similar situation not so long ago.

“Covid-19 showed me flames,” said Sonia.

“Everything stopped. I went through the worst financial situation. In life nothing is guaranteed, today it’s you, tomorrow it’s me. That’s why the spirit of Ubuntu is crucial,” she said.
