Palesa Madisakwane, who has received a lot of backlash.

ACTRESS Palesa Madisakwane has been the talk of social media the whole weekend since posting a video of herself burning a sangoma cloth.

In the video, she plays The Blood Will Never Lose Its Power by Andrae Crouch and is seen setting the cloth on fire.

She captioned the post with the lyrics of Tasha Cobbs’ hit song, Break Every Chain

Palesa (48) faced backlash as the video went viral on social media.

People were upset at her and were calling her out for burning the cloth.

She has been called judgemental, and people said she should’ve burnt it in private, not on social media.

However, in her response to all the comments, she said: “Jesus is Lord.”

Recently, the actress has been posting videos of her sharing verses and saying she was not ashamed of being a born-again Christian.

The president of the Dingaka Association, Andrew Mashimane, said what Palesa did was disrespectful.

“It’s very disrespectful. In fact, when you leave your ancestors to go and be umzalwane, your ancestors find that disrespectful. And her burning these things will be a problem because her elders are going to want their things back," Mashimane.

“Now, if she was really called for this, she will have a problem when she needs to return these things that she burnt. She will get sick, her kids will get sick, and there’ll be problems in her life. She will go back by force. But if she was a fake sangoma, she’ll be fine."

He said ukuthwasa and being a sangoma were not a personal choice.

“You get chosen. You don’t just decide ukuthwasa. Your ancestors choose you, and being a sangoma is like being a pastor. You can’t stop being a pastor,” Mashimane said.

A pastor at All Nations Revival Ministries, Dr Nelisiwe Zimu, said Christian churches motivated people to burn things as a symbol of commitment.

“This is not only limited to things of izangoma but anything that is preventing a person from committing to God fully. And it’s not a matter of that if you don’t burn them, we don’t accept you," she said.

“We do things by grace because we want to be the epitome of God’s grace and say, come as you are. You don’t need to burn things first before you come to God. Come as you are. But we say that if you burn these things, it’s not easy for you to go back to them. If you see them, you might be tempted."

She also shared that it didn’t end with burning.

“After burning these tangibles that are from your past, we as the church further help you, especially spiritually and psychologically. To say how are you living your life from now on and how are you renewing your mind,” she said.
