THE cast and crew of yet another popular SABC show don’t know whether they still have jobs.
A source told Daily Sun that the public broadcaster had not yet confirmed whether it would renew the contract of the SABC 3 telenovela, The Estate, produced by Clive Morris Productions.
“This has left the cast and crew very worried as they have seen what has happened with Muvhango and Skeem Saam, which have not been shooting for almost three months. Their livelihoods are at stake and they are scared,” said the source.
The source said there was a meeting with cast and crew on Friday, 12 November, but there were no news about the contract.
“What makes it worse is that the current contract is ending in November and they still don’t have answers,” said the source.
An actor said the show runners had requested an extension for what was left of the current season.

“I’m not scared. That is the nature of the industry.
“If this show comes to an end, another door will open,” said the actor.
Sophia Chitemere, PR officer at Clive Morris, said she couldn’t comment at this point.
SABC group executive for marketing Gugu Ntuli said the show’s contract was not ending this month.
“It must be noted that The Estate is a telenovela.
“It’s written to start and finish within a certain number of episodes.
“All programmes undergo a review process of their performance near the conclusion of the contract, in order for a decision to be taken on whether to renew or terminate the contract,” she said.
She said a new season for Muvhango has been finalised.
