"We did great things together and also worked on many projects as friends. I hope he's resting in peace wherever he is," he said.
Eddie said they went to school together in Soweto. He said Thobela's poor health prevented him from attending Boxing SA's symposium at the Arena Holdings offices in Parktown on Friday, 26 April.
Thobela won the hearts of many between 1990 and 2006. He became a world champion in two weight classes, holding the WBO lightweight title from 1990 to 1992, the WBA lightweight title in 1993, and the WBC super-middleweight title in 2000.
