FIKILE Magagamela has been working behind the scenes in the music industry.

But she has now stepped into politics. This after she was elected the ward 11 councillor in Embalenhle in Secunda, Mpumalanga.

The 34-year-old, who was born in Embalenhle and raised by a single parent, finished school in the area.

Fikile, who is an ANC member, graduated in 2007 with a diploma in public relations and communication from CIDA City Campus in Joburg. She has worked at Universal Music as a public relations officer from 2011 to 2013, and at SABC2’s Gospel Times as public relations and artist manager.

Between 2014 and 2016, she worked on SABC1’s Gospel Gold show as a content producer and researcher.

Fikile said residents will always be her priority.

“I said God is great when I heard that I am the new councillor for my ward. I feel very humbled and honoured to be given an opportunity to be a messenger for my community. Service delivery will not be complete until we all join hands to change our area.”

Fikile said she’ll be responsible, accountable and make sure there’s zero tolerance for corruption.

Her wish is for her ward to develop and to create jobs for the youth. “People should feel free to share ideas of building the ward,” she said.

Between 2011 and 2015, she was the ANC Youth League branch secretary and the Communist League branch secretary. From 2018 to last year, she was the ANC Women’s League branch chairwoman and branch executive committee additional member.

On 22 November, she was also elected as Govan Mbeki speaker of the council.
