BONNIE MBULI JOINS THE REPUBLIC!

ACTRESS Bonnie Mbuli will join the second season of The Republic.

Bonnie, who’s been gracing international shows such as e British series Wallander and Noughts and Crosses, is now coming back to local TV.

Mzansi Magic has announced that the drama series will be returning for a second season, and Bonnie will be joined by familiar faces such as Bongile Mantsai, Thembi Nyandeni, Tsholo Mashishi, Lemogang Tsipa, as well as Noxolo Dlamini and Chichi Letswalo.

Actors Florence Masebe, who plays President Mulaudzi and Masasa Mbangeni are returning to reprise their roles.

Announcing the news, Mzansi Magic said season two comes with more drama. It returns on 2 January at 8pm on Mzansi Magic (DStv channel 161).

“Season 2 of the award-winning political thriller The Republic follows the aftermath of season 1 – the kidnapping of President Mulaudzi and a coup attempt amid a genuine citizen unrest.

“Mulaudzi might have cleaned up her cabinet but the country is still in a state of chaos with protests, riots and power outages being the norm. How will she fix it, and who will stand in her way?” wrote the channel.

Drama series Mzali Wam’ is also returning to the small screens for its second season.

The cast Lungelo Mpangase, Lusanda Mbane, Nolwazi Shange, Dumisani Mbebe, and Oros Mampofu are returning to the show and former The Queen, actor Loyiso McDonald joins as Lungelo.

Commenting on the return of the shows, the newly- appointed director of local entertainment channels at M-Net, Shirley Adonisi, said: “We’re starting off the new year with the return of two of our most-loved dramas. It’s also fantastic that both these shows have female leads. It’s important for us as Mzansi Magic to give our viewers content that they love while still remaining relevant and portraying the matters that affect our viewers’ lives in a realistic and truthful manner.”

Mzali Wam’ starts from 3 January at 8pm on Mzansi Magic (DStv channel 161).
