KATLEGO “Killer” Mphela has rejoined National First Division (NFD) club Royal Eagles.

Mphela had left Eagles in search of greener pastures at end of last season after his contract with the club had expired.

The former Bafana Bafana striker had apparently been looking for a Premier Soccer League return, which was the main reason he left the Maritzburg side.

His return to the NFD outfit was confirmed by the club’s general manager, Richard Makhoba. “Mphela is back at the club and has already started training with his teammates. We are all excited by his return and know he will be a great boost to the club’s ambitions to get promotion,” said Makhoba.

Mphela (31) first joined Eagles at the beginning of last season and started in 17 matches, scoring nine goals.

The former Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns marksman was welcomed back with open arms by club captain Philani Cele, who said his experience was needed. “He started training with us today (yesterday). We need him. His experience is valuable at the club. He’s a good striker who knows where the poles are.

“Mphela’s experience will not only help the team as a whole but also individual players,” said Cele.

Mphela is expected to form a partnership with Phumelele Bhengu, who joined the team from SuperSport United early last month.

  • Meanwhile, AmaZulu have revealed that their long awaited DRC striker Kule Mbombo is expected to join the club no later than next week. According to Usuthu the striker has been declared a free agent by the DRC FA, and AmaZulu will be able to register him for the PSL when he arrives, even though the transfer window is now closed.
