AFTER winning their first match of the new Absa Premiership season, Golden Arrows players are confident ahead of tonight’s match against Free State Stars at Goble Park Stadium (7.30pm).
Abafana Bes’thende are hoping to continue where they left off seven days ago when they collected their first maximum points by beating Cape Town City. Club captain Trevor Mathiane said they were looking forward to playing Ea Lla Koto and returning with another three points.
“Spirits are high. Our first win has given us a sense of belief. We know we are playing away this time but we have to come back with all the points,” said Mathiane.
The skipper hasn’t kicked a ball this season but hopes he will be able to make his debut tonight. He said he had been fully behind the team that coach Clinton Larsen had played in the opening matches.
“My time will come and hopefully it will come soon! The guys have done well in our last match. We look to continue where we left off and I’m confident I will get a run tomorrow (tonight). When we play teams like Free State Stars we need to collect all the points against them.
“I don’t underestimate them but we know we are capable of beating them. We are not going there to defend, we are going there to fight. It’s the same with Bloemfontein Celtic, who we play against after the Stars game. We also need to beat them. They too will playing at home but we know we will do well,” said a confident Mathiane.
The skipper added that they would again be without star striker Kudakwashe Mahachi tonight, who is still nursing his injury.
The Zimbabwean striker will also miss the Celtic match in Bloemfontein on Sunday.
