“WE HAVE lost a hero and a good man. The culprits should be held accountable for the crime.”
Angry residents of Klipgat, in Tshwane said this when they found their neighbour, Victor Maluleka, murdered on Sunday morning.
The 49-year-old victim was allegedly shot dead in his shack.
His employer, Oupa Makhubela (58), said Victor was not just an employee but a good friend.
Victor worked as a street vendor, selling vegetables and fruit for Oupa.
When Victor didn’t show up for work on Friday morning, Oupa was not worried because he was a reliable employee.
“But when he failed to pitch the next day, I became concerned.
“I went to his shack and couldn’t find him.
“ I also went to our favourite tavern but he was also not there.
“I had a bad feeling about it.
Oupa said his heart was broken because he missed his friend.
“On Sunday, I was told by one of our customers that Victor had been murdered.”
Apparently he was followed from the tavern and murdered in his shack.”
Victor was found with two gunshot wounds in his chest and had a broken left arm.
Neighbours were pouring into the family home with prayers and words of comfort.
Resident Monica Rammushi (44) said Victor was loved by young and the old.
“Our children loved him because he gave them fruit and sweets.
“We always went to bed on a full stomach because of the fresh vegetables he used to sell,” she said.
North West police spokesman Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone said a case of murder was opened for an investigation.
“No arrests have been made yet.”
