AN MTHATHA woman spent Women’s Day in hospital while another woman spent the day in jail.
The jailed woman will appear in the Mthatha Magistrates Court today along with two men for allegedly assaulting the victim and burning down her mum’s house after accusing her of killing her husband.
The dramatic incident happened in Mandela Park on Tuesday. Earlier that day the husband’s body was found in Decoligny. He had been missing for almost two weeks.
As soon as news spread of his death, an angry mob went looking for his wife, who was in the process of divorcing him. She was living with her mum. They moered her and torched the mum’s house.
They were about to burn a bakkie belonging to the family when the cops arrived.
Community leader Simosakhe Memani told Daily Sun: “We are very shocked by the incident. We urge community members not to take the law into their own hands.”
Police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Mzukisi Fatyela said three suspects had been arrested.
He said: “The suspects, aged between 30 and 67, will be appearing in court on charges of arson and attempted murder.”
