A FATHER wants only the best for his kids.
So when the last-born daughter, Basetsana Simelane (23), of Richard Simelane (60), from Orchards near Rosslyn in Tshwane , told him she wanted to get a job and study part time, he let her.
Little did he know that her independence would come at a price. Today he longs to see his daughter after an absence of two years.
He said Basetsana stopped taking his calls and if he calls from a private number, as soon as she hears it is him she drops the call.
Richard said the trouble started after she found work at Edenvale Hospital. “She rented a room in Elandsfontein and visited home from time to time. She met and fell in love with a Tanzanian guy. She fell pregnant and told us her lover’s elders will come soon to pay lobola for her. But they never came.”
He said his mistake was that when he saw the months going by, he asked his daughter about the arrival of her in-laws to be.
“She changed completely towards the family and stopped visiting us. When her sisters went to visit her they found she had relocated. We don’t know where she lives now.”
What worries Richard is if something unexpected such as death should happen.
“Her boyfriend has stopped communicating with us. . . Will he have the courage to let us know?” he asked.
When Daily Sun contacted Basetsana she said her father was lying: “I always speak to my sister on the phone and he knows why I am not taking his calls.” She then said she was at work and dropped the call.
