DR MALINGA’s entertaining moves and famous kicks run in the family!
According to his father Marcus Modise, his son inherited all his moves from him.
The 61-year-old from Marikana View in Soshanguve, Tshwane, is a star in his own way.
While Dr Malinga, whose real name is Goodwill Malinga, has been making waves in local music, Marcus also has made a name for himself on the jazz scene.
Marcus is well known for the special style of dancing he does to jazz at stokvel meetings every Sunday.
The SunTeam recently visited him and his friends in block B, where they were hosting a jazz session.
When Marcus took to the stage, the audience started clapping their hands and everyone gave him space to show off his moves.
Marcus said he had been dancing for years.
“I practised a lot and what I like about jazz is it helps you express how you feel. Jazz lovers call this kind of dancing ‘dig and dobola’.”
Marcus said people in the kasi hired him to perform at parties and weddings.
The proud father said Dr Malinga took after him.
Stokvel member Lawrence Monyai (54) said you can’t find a better dancer than Marcus.
“Every time we meet, we all learn new moves from him. He is an entertainer and always brings the house down when he dances.”
Dr Malinga said he was brought up by his mum and didn’t have a chance to learn anything from his father. “But looking at the way we both dance, it shows that it runs in our blood.”
