Identical twins Devaanya and Dasheya Bhunjun are getting ready to walk the runway at fashion week.

South African Fashion Week (SAFW) will host the autumn/winter 2023 shows at The Mall of Africa from 19 to 21 October 2023, where the twins will be strutting their stuff.

Gearing up for their second season at SAFW, the 21-year-old Bhunjun sisters speak to us about their modelling journey, career goals and more.

One of the designers they will be walking for this season is Black Coffee, who is exploring the concept of the past, present and future with a model selection of diverse skin tones.

Devaanya says, "I would like my modelling career to take me to Europe, Miss South Africa and Victoria's Secret."

Dasheya hopes to achieve supermodel status.

The pair reveal designers love booking them together after seeing them first gracing the SAFW runway walking for Rubicom, a brand known for producing iconic collections.

Born and bred in Centurion, the sisters hope to take over in the modelling in South Africa and abroad. They hope to walk for Victoria’s Secret one and look up to supermodels Adriana Lima and Kendall Jenner.

“I was inspired by Victoria's Secret, to be honest. That's why I really wanted to get into modelling,” Devaanya says.

While Dasheya shares, "I want to go to Europe and maybe India as well."

However, the runway may not be the only place you'll see them as one of the sisters hopes to try out for Miss South Africa at some point.

With piqued interest in the modelling world from a noticeably young age, the sisters pursued modelling more professionally in matric, when they were 18 years old. Devaanya says, "We started first with an academy [at] Ace Models, then we got scouted multiple times." They subsequently joined SYNC Models.

But, Dasheya says her first season in 2022 was scary. "But as soon as I got onto the runway, I was not scared anymore. I just enjoyed it."

"And we were walking together. So, it also made it much easier [and] now we are a bit more used to it,” says the sister. Devaanya adds that, “This time it's going to be much calmer. I think I won't be as stressed as last season.”

“I just really like walking on the runway. That's my favourite thing as well. I think that's the most exciting part,” the sisters say interchangeably.
