A regal affair for phenomenal women in music.
The second annual Basadi in Music Awards 2023 held on Saturday, 12 August 2023, at the at Joburg Theatre, saw a range of industry stars in attendance. The special occasion to commemorate women for their achievements in the entertainment industry and the stars did not disappoint on the red carpet.
The prestigious awards are aimed at celebrating women working in different genres of music, broadcasting, journalism and fashion. The ceremony was hosted by media personality and songstress Unathi Nkayi.
It was a show-stopping event filled with over-the-top garments from African print, sequins, unique designs and Nigerian inspired looks and more.
The likes of Lethabo LeJoy Mathatho, Gigi Lamanyne, Candy Tsa Mandebele, Busiswa, Msaki, Thando Thabethe, Cici, Khosi Twala amongst other celebrated women were in attendance.

Speaking about the inspiration behind her look, Real Housewives of Johannesburg (RHOJ) star Lethabo says, “I just loved this material because in Limpopo the women would wrap it around themselves during occasions such as funerals, weddings and more, so it looks [like] royalty and I said to her (the designer) just do whatever you want but this material should be on me because its royalty.”
Candy and another RHOJ star Thobekile Mdlalose were also dressed by the same designer as Lethabo, Manyaku.
Msaki walked away with the Samro Songwriter of the Year award. Kelly Khumalo, Nadia Nakai, Lady Amar, Khanyisa Jaceni and more also walked away with awards.
The awards also honoured women from other countries in Africa who walked away with the Mosadi in Music in Africa Award, including recipients such as Berita (Zimbabwe), Mpho Sebina (Botswana), Ayra Starr (Nigeria) and Sefa (Ghana).
Meanwhile, Thando Thabethe (Thabooty's underwear and shapewear), Nhlanhla Mafu (NN Vintage) and Boity (BT signature) were the CEO Mosadi in Business Achievement Award recipients.
