She's always been a trendsetter.

There have been songs sung about her beauty and she often gets conversations going.

If people are not talking about her friendships, they are talking about her work.

Pearl Thusi had followers, fans and foes hot under the collar when she posted images of herself wearing a sheer jumpsuit that exposed her breasts.

She wore it to the 2Million Icons party, an exclusive event by fashion designer Rich Mnisi, where sheer mesh outfits were popular.

But, she's not the first - and surely won't be the last - to rock this popular fashion statement. Fellow stars such as Ciara, Rihanna, Gabrielle Union and more have all been seen showing off their bits in see-through looks.

Throughout the years designers such as the late Manfred Thierry Mugler, founder of French fashion house Mugler, are among the many designers who have been fond of sheer clothing items and using it in a number of their collections.

Jessica Richards, trend forecaster and founder of JMR Trend + Creative tells Marie Clarie that “sheers will always be a bold, take-notice material; but one of the critical updates we see in Spring/Summer ‘23 is the evolution from celebrating straight-on sexiness to that of ultra-femininity.”

She adds that the popularity of the sheer trend is, in part, due to the fact woman prefer to be “dressing with presence and dressing with empowerment.”

According to Glamour, the sheer trend speaks to our current zeitgeist as women are wanting to be seen, acknowledged and empowered. Sheer proves that you can achieve a fashionable look with just minimal clothing from flowy sheer dresses or a sheer mini, sheer glam boot to sheer skirts.

The sheer trend has been touted as one of Spring/Summer 2023’s most wearable 'fits and it adds elegance and sexiness to the simplest of outfits.

However, these women have received negative reactions from social media users for this choice. Not too long ago, Ciara was criticised for rocking a sheer dress because it is supposed "inappropriate for a wife and mother" to wear such clothing.

“It’s interesting that the concentrated assault on American women’s bodily autonomy comes during a time when the near eradication of the once-strict gender binary in fashion has given women more fashion choices than ever ... This apparently includes, as proposed by the spring 2023 collections, the right to bare breasts,” a fashion historian Cassidy Zachary, tells ELLE.

While some consider such looks controversial, many women remain perfectly happy to continue making this fashion statement.

Here are six celebrities who have rocked partial or completely sheer outfits and knocked it out of the park:

1. Pearl Thusi

2. Ciara

3. Gabrielle Union

4. Chloe Bailey

5. Rihanna

6. Bonang Matheba
