Awards season is in full swing.
Immaculate fashion was on a standstill as the red carpet waited for its recipients at the Emmy Award
The prestigious 75th Emmy Awards were handed out in Los Angeles on 15 January 2024, honouring the best in television. Black-ish star Anthony Anderson hosted the ceremony for the first time.
The red carpet saw an array of elements incorporated into garments, from sequins, rhinestones, floral.
The star-studded affair saw Issa Rae step on the red carpet with her partner, as well as Kourtney Kardashian-Barker and Travis Barker in full blown PDA. Sheryl Lee Ralph, Niecy Nash-Betts and Tisha Campbell were the epitome of 'Black don't crack' as they stunned the red carpet.
The Insecure actress Issa wore a bedazzled dress, with pearls, sequins and feathers.
South Africa was represented as Trevor Noah won the award for Outstanding Variety Talk Series, for his stellar work on The Daily Talk Show with Trevor Noah. It has been almost two years since the comedian announced leaving the show.
“I told you! I told you we would beat John Oliver if he wasn’t in our category. We did it. We got rid of John Oliver,” Trevor quipped.
According to CBS News, Succession led the way with 27 nominations for its fourth and final season, alongside Beef and The Bear collecting awards.
It was a battle between outstanding recipients who embodied their characters. Niecy Nash-Betts walked away with an award for Outstanding supporting actress in a limited or anthology series or movie, on the infamous Dahmer - Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story".
During her acceptance speech Niecy said, "Finally, I accept this award on behalf of every Black and Brown woman who has gone unheard yet overpoliced. Like Glenda Cleveland. Like Sandra Bland. Like Breonna Taylor. As an artist, my job is to speak truth to power, and baby, I’ma do it ’til the day I die. Mama, I won!”
Meanwhile, producer and actress Quinta Brunson won an award for Outstanding lead actress in a comedy series for her series Abbott Elementary.
