Colour-blocking is one of those trends we all swore we would never repeat every time we looked at our photos from the mid-2000s to the 2010s. However, it looks like we might have lied. Vibrant colours have returned.

Fashion rules state that there are just some colour combinations we should steer clear of such as navy and black because they look too similar or purple and green because we’ll look like a certain TV fictional dinosaur.

However, bright colours are all the rage when it comes to fashion - from 'Bottega green' to the Barbiecore pink trend - or a combination of the two.  Although we've been wearing pink and red together or blue and green become more often, dopamine dressing is the modernised younger sister of colour-blocking that fashion is embracing.

According to British Vogue, wearing acid bright colours is termed dopamine dressing because of its feel-good, mood-boosting qualities.

Boldly disrupting the neutral trend, our favourite South African celebrities aren't missing out when it comes to this hottest fashion trend. Broadcaster Melanie Bala has a more classic take by pairing a pink cami with red pants, while reality star Dj Zinhle adds some edge with a royal blue suit paired with a 'Bottega green' shirt.

Here’s how some of our other favourite celebrities are making a case for dopamine dressing:
