Bonang reveals that House of BNG is the number one selling MCC at Woolworths – plus 3 other black woman-owned wines you should try

Just over a year after launching her popular bubbly brand, House of BNG, media personality Bonang Matheba has celebrated many milestones with her sparkling wine. From partnering with major events such as the Miss South Africa pageant in 2019 to going international with a BBC interview – and now, Moghel has just announced that House of BNG has become the number one selling MCC at Woolworths.

Taking to her Twitter page, Bonang proudly made the announcement.

“…ya’ll made BNG the number 1 selling MCC at Woolies! Thank you…to the top we go,” she wrote.

While House of BNG may be the most well-known black woman-owned South African wine brand - it's not the only one. Here are three other black woman-owned and proudly South African wine brands you should try.

1. Siwela Wines

Siwela wines is founded by fermentation biotechnologist and wine maker, Siwela Masoga.

“Our exclusive range of premium quality wines are produced to encourage wine enthusiasts to embrace our beautifully rooted African culture, heritage and originality through each sip of the Siwela wine of their choice,” she says on their site.

Their wine collection comprises of MCCs, pinotage, rosé, sauvignon blanc and dry wine.

2. Ndlovukazi Wines

Ndlovukazi wines was founded by Kholeka Nxumalo who ventured into the wine industry after working in somatology and aviation. Their collection currently comprises of three different blends: Shiraz, Red Blend Merlot and Dry white.

3. Aslina Wines

Aslina wines is founded by Ntsiki Biyela who holds a BSc in Agriculture (Viticulture and Oenology) from Stellenbosch University.

“Ntsiki’s ambition to create her own wines grew following a collaboration with Californian winemaker, Helen Kiplinger, as part of Mika Bulmash’s Wine for the World initiative.  In addition, she has consulted in France, making wine under Winemakers Collection in Bordeaux,” the website reads.

Their wine collection comprises of cabernet sauvignon, sauvignon blanc and chardonnay.
