  • Local celebrities have found the balance of running businesses, bringing to life onscreen characters and then some while raising their families.
  • International Women's Day, observed on 8 March 2024, is the perfect time to highlight Mzansi's A-listers who are mothers.
  • Connie Ferguson, Nomndeni Mdakhi and Phindile Gwala are just a few celebrity supermoms doing it all.

They do it all and then some.

From building empires and entrepreneurship to showing up and showing out for their little ones, these A-list moms are standing on business.

International Women’s Day on 8 March 2024 is coming up and what better way to get into the spirit of celebrating the strong women of our time than to highlight some of South Africa’s supermoms.

Just look at Muvhango and Uzalo actress Phindile Gwala-Ngandu who not only runs an initiative designed to help local women entrepreneurs set up and run their businesses online called the Women Accelerator Program, she and her husband Armando Ngandu blend their families.

Even Ukhozi FM veteran radio personality, life coach and events specialist Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule is the definition of doing it all while she raises her three children with husband and pastor Bishop Mpendulo Nkambule.

These celebrity moms are also not afraid to be upfront and personal about making sure they give just as much attention to their own passions and goals as they do to the young minds they’re shaping.

Walk with us as we shine a light on the inspiring balancing act these local celebrity moms take on.

Brenda Mhlongo

After a striking role as Jack Mabaso’s wife Nandi in Generations: The Legacy, Brenda’s impressive credits include acting in eKasi: Our Stories, Imbewu and The Queen as well as hosting the Crown Gospel Music Awards and bagging two international awards.

Brenda is also mom to content creator Snikiwe Mhlongo who has created quite a name for herself in the world of fashion and beauty.

Nomndeni Mdakhi

A renowned businesswoman and great speaker, Nomdeni Mdakhi is passionate about creating spaces for women’s success – both in entrepreneurship and with her two children.

Her platforms like Agenda Women, the deejaying school for girls Fuse Academy and being featured on docu-reality series Making of a Mogul: Ladies Edition all while spending time with and raising her son and daughter shows us that it’s possible to do it all.

Connie Ferguson

A veteran in the world of entertainment and mogul entrepreneur, Connie is the epitome of a world-class woman, business owner and parent.

Founding the production company Ferguson Films in 2010 with her late husband Shona Ferguson and creating an esteemed path for her daughters Lesedi Matsunyane-Ferguson and Ali Ferguson is just the tip of this established careerwoman’s esteemed iceberg.

Zanele Mbokazi-Nkambule

A revered radio host who has been in the business for 23 years and motivational life coach are just a few hats Zanele wears in her daily life.

Zanele’s intense faith and strong values almost certainly make her one of the supermoms we’re honoured to acknowledge as she gives the world to her three children.

Gugu Gumede

Many recognise her as the prophetess Mamlambo on the popular soap opera Uzalo as well as the daughter of the late National Freedom Party leader Zanele kaMagwaza-Msibi. And Gugu has continued to make a name for herself in the world of entertainment.

A first-time mom to her two-year-old daughter, Gugu makes raising her little one and keeping her eye on her goals look easy.

Phindile Gwala-Ngandu

The 37-year-old Smoke & Mirrors actress and businesswoman has had quite the journey not only in the acclaimed roles she takes on – onscreen and at home as a mom to her and her husband’s children from previous relationships – but also in the ups and downs of entrepreneurship.

From dealing with the closure of her car wash and chisa nyama businesses during the Covid-19 pandemic and picking herself back up with her Women Accelerator Program to spending time with her daughters, she serves as quite the inspiration.

Ayanda Ncwane

The former The Real Housewives of Durban star has prided herself as a businesswoman and servant leader through her spirituality, all while raising her two sons without their late father, gospel singer Sfiso Ncwane.

With Ayanda holding down the reigns and supporting her sons, where one of them follows in his father’s footstep and ventures into music, the media personality showcases a level strength and resilience we all hope to achieve.
