Self-care. When South Africans, and the rest of the world, were locked in during the pandemic, a lot of people started focusing more on their skincare routines.
There were tips for glowing skin, exfoliation and homemade masks. And for those new to the routines, there were questions as more gadgets and gizmos hit the market, all guaranteed to give you younger, firmer looking skin.
Social media caught on the beauty trends wave.
Though a staple technique to keeping your skin radiant, through the trends we are also introduced to new tools incorporated to skincare routines.
Cosmopolitan reports that, no matter how great and effective a product is, if you aren't going to use it (and use it consistently), it won't work miracles for your skin. If you're a beginner to the skincare routine cult, then these five products should be included in your beauty routine.

Seven skincare tools to add to your cart.
1. Led Face Mask
Dermatologist Dr. Melanie Palm tells Vogue that, “LED light therapy is a safe skin treatment using low-level light available in different colors and wavelengths."
The LED Face Mask helps reduce acne scars, wrinkles, and dark spots. Even better, this mask tightens and lifts the skin.
2. Facial Roller
The gliding motion alleviates any swollenness. The facial roller is designed to drain the lymphatic system and boost circulation, making it the perfect option to depuff and calm inflamed skin, Marie Claire reports.
3. Facial Cleansing Brush
The cleansing brush deep cleanses skin. According to Allure, the tool has ultrafine, tapered bristle tips at various lengths to effectively bring dirt and grime to the surface without stripping or irritating the skin. Use in conjunction with your favorite face wash for a cleanse so good you won't want it to end.
4. Gua Sha
Originating from East Asia, translated directly as “scraping,” the traditional Chinese tool can increase blood flow, drain the lymphatic system and it also helps tone complexions when moved over the skin in quick motions.
5. Facial Freeze Tools
Do away with spoons in ice water and use freeze tools as they help with puff face. Cosmopolitan advises to apply your daily face serum, then glide and press the cold metal ends over any areas that need a little soothing.
6. Ozone Therapy
Connie Ferguson caused a stir on social media when she posted snaps of herself relaxing in a pod with nothing but her head showing while getting a one-of-a-kind spa treatment, ozone therapy.
Ozone therapist Chris Porter from Salvagente - a spa establishment in Pretoria - says, “It is called ozone sauna therapy or transdermal ozone steam therapy. It is where ozone (O3 molecule) is absorbed into the body through the skin to improve your wellness. This is done inside an ozone steam sauna, a pod where your body is covered but your head sticks out."
7. Beauty Lip Scrub
According to Cosmopolitan, apply a small amount to the little scrubber and rub in circular motions to exfoliate and nourish your lips.
