"The best skincare routine is having money."

This Khanyi Mbau-endorsed phrase at the very least lets us know a good skincare routine requires investment.

While cosmetic products and procedures do cost money, consistency is likely the biggest investment of all.

We tend to mistake flooding skin with products or shiny skin as glowing but it might just be ill-suited products from your routine that are making the skin too oily and making you break out.  There are ways to get the dewy glowing skin with a minimal routine that also gives maximum effects.

According to L’Oréal Paris, achieving this coveted beauty look may be easier said than done but it can be yours with a quality skin care routine that includes brightening serums and exfoliating scrubs, and dewy makeup products with glowy finishes and cream formulas.

“The first step is consistently good skincare, which reduces the likelihood of dryness,” Glowbar co-founder and CEO, Rachel Liverman tells ELLE. Adding that, “On top of that, cream products - not powder ones - always enhance a dewy look.

It's imperative to have a consistent skincare routine that caters to your specific skincare needs, although there's more that comes to play when it comes to the ultimate glow. Hydrating from the inside out by drinking plenty of water and getting enough sleep also helps. But it doesn't end there.

According to Themba Ndlovu, Clere brand manager, proper hydration keeps your skin plump and supple, reducing the risk of dryness.

Here is how to achieve dewy skin without looking oily:

1. Exfoliation

Elle reports that Dr Sapna Palep of Spring Street Dermatology in New York City says, "the right amount of exfoliation helps the skin to look fresh and dewy. At-home products with fruit acids are a great add-on. In the office, facials with microdermabrasion techniques, like the Hydrafacial, are other solid options."

Themba adds that exfoliating helps to remove dead skin cells.

2. SPF

According to Themba, it's important to apply sunscreen with at least SPF 30 before sun exposure. He says SPF improves the skin’s resistance to UV and keeps damage at bay.

3. Have a religious skincare routine

A gentle cleanser, a hydrating toner and a hyaluronic acid serum should all have a place within your current skincare routine.

4. Hyaluronic acid is your friend

Products with hyaluronic acid can help improve skin especially for those with oily prone skin.

“For oily skin types, I know adding moisture may seem counterintuitive, but the oil-free hydration provided by hyaluronic acid helps reduce sebum production and balances skin moisture levels," says Chaneve Jeanniton, oculofacial plastic surgeon and founder of epi.logic skincare.
