Spring has sprung and as we make room for brighter and shorter garments in our wardrobes, we should also switch up our make-up looks to accommodate the sunny days.

According to InStyle, bright makeup - which consists of vibrant colours - is one of the major themes in makeup trends. Playing with colourful eye makeup is one of the best ways to rock this trend.

Speaking to TRUELOVE, professional makeup artist, Andi Ngcobo - who has worked with stars such as Nandi Mbatha, DJ Doowap and Nambitha Ben-Mazwi - says that a fresh and clean look is essential this season.

“This season is all about clean, fresh and warm make-up. This is also the time to play around with colour and get creative with your look especially when it comes to your eyes. Keep the rest of your skin clean and fresh and let your eyes stand out,” she says.

She gives us five tips on achieving a perfect bright look:

1.       Use a good eye base

“A really good eye base is essential for making sure that the colour you put on your eyes lasts longer and is very pigmented. Throw on a white eye-liner to add that extra pop to your look,” she says.

2.       Bright yellow, neon oranges, limes and baby blues should be your go-to eyeshadow colours

“Because this is a very fun season, you should get creative with your eyeshadow and experiment with colour. There isn’t a colour that specifically goes with a specific complexion so don’t worry about that. Bright yellows, neon orange tones, limes and baby blue are very popular this season so get a palette with those shades.”

3.       Take your powder everywhere

“Because it tends to get very hot and humid during Spring, carry a touch up powder in your bag because you will get sweaty. You’ll need a touch up powder with a lot of coverage so you can touch up as needed when you do sweat.”

4.       Always prepare your skin before putting on makeup

“The most important thing with skin prep is sunscreen. The truth about skincare is that none of your make-up products will work for you if you don’t take care of your skin. So in addition to using a primer and moisturiser before adding make-up, also ensure that you have used some SPF to protect your skin.”

5.       Nude lips are the way to go

“For a spring day out, I’d recommend a clean and glow-y vibe that gives off a sun-kissed look. You can never go wrong with a natural nude lip this season. Rather than using a bright lipstick, add colour to your eye by either using bright eyeshadow or a bright liner on the eye and keep the lips nude.”
