Orlando Pirates could beat their rivals Mamelodi Sundowns to the signing of a Zambian based DR Congolese striker, the Siya crew has been informed.

Siya sources close to both the player and Pirates have indicated that Bucs may be close to landing Andy Bobwa Boyeli from Power Dynamos in Zambia.

As previously reported by Soccer Laduma, the 22-year-old was monitored by both Sundowns and Pirates.

The source has now added how Pirates could have moved in front of the queue to sign the player.

"The team is looking at releasing some strikers including foreign strikers which will open up space for (Andy) Boyeli to come to the country and probably join the team. It's not a deal yet but Pirates are in front compared to Sundowns," said the Siya source.

"It seems Sundowns have other options as far as strikers are concerned and this gives Pirates the chance to be the front runners to land the striker as it stands at the moment," the source told Soccer Laduma.

A second source indicated that Bucs are looking at strengthening their strikeforce hence they are looking at Boyeli as an option.

"You see Kermit (Erasmus) is injured and the other two strikers are really not contributing to the team and that's why the team is looking at releasing them or loaning them out. And when they do that they want to bring in a striker who would help the team in solving the goalscoring drought," said the second Siya source.

"They have looked at different strikers but at the moment Boyeli is top of the shopping list. We just have to wait and see what will happen in January or at the end of the season," the source observed.

Soccer Laduma contacted Pirates for comment but no response was received while preparing this story.
