Kaizer Chiefs have a big month ahead as the Soweto giants look to keep themselves in the DStv Premiership title race, with matches that could go a long way in determining whether or not they are genuine contenders.

Amakhosi will be back in action on the final day of 2022 when they take on Golden Arrows in KZN, before a tough January begins with a clash against Sekhukhune United on January 7 at FNB Stadium.

On January 13, the Soweto giants take on an AmaZulu side which knocked them out of the MTN8 semi-finals earlier this season. Usuthu coach Romain Folz has had time to work with his players during the break and will be looking to give Amakhosi an even tougher time than they did last time round.

Arguably the toughest match of the month will be against defending champions and current leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, who have already hammered Chiefs 4-1 this season in the Premiership. Sundowns, who will visit Amakhosi at FNB Stadium on January 21, were looking unstoppable before the break, with six straight victories, and Chiefs will have to put out a big performance to ensure the leaders do not open too big a gap at the summit.

Arthur Zwane will then take his team to Polokwane, where they will host Royal AM at Peter Mokaba Stadium on January 29. Royal AM beat Chiefs 1-0 on the opening weekend of the season overcame the Soweto giants twice in the league last season.

Amakhosi are determined to get their hands on the title and the matches during the first month of 2023 could have a big say in where they will finish come May.
